Abstract

The proportion of bilingual students is currently growing in many educational contexts (Singleton and Aronin 2018). Due to this rise, bilingual education approaches are being researched (Hobbs 2012) to ensure equal access to education and open up opportunities for success and to enhance multilingual pupils' academic results. The aim of this article is to conduct a thorough investigation on the unrealized potential of multilingualism within the field of English Language Teaching (ELT). Multilingualism is important to look more closely at how it might be included into ELT methods. The study carefully considers a range of multilingualism tactics used in ELT, considering both the advantages and disadvantages they bring. This study examines the pedagogical difficulties involved in incorporating multilingualism into ELT programs. It critically examines potential obstacles and makes recommendations for strategies that teachers might use to maximize the advantages of a bilingual approach. The study emphasizes the educational consequences of accepting multilingualism in ELT through this investigation. This research used a document analysis as a qualitative research method by examining empirical findings conducted in conferences and/or scientific journals with particular emphasis on the research. There is three steps model in data analyzing such as; data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing /verification. The findings describe some ways that used to unlocking the potential of multilingualism of ELT. This study sheds light on how multilingualism may be applied practically as well as on how it can promote language diversity and intercultural competency. By providing solutions, addressing challenges, and highlighting the educational benefits, our research contributes to the ongoing discussion about language education.
